In the current conservative social and political environment, it is becoming increasingly difficult to operate any kind of "adult entertainment" business, including retail stores that sell adult products. Within the past few years, we have had to deal with the following:
- Our shopping cart service changed their terms of service and would no longer allow adult businesses, forcing us to move to a new shopping cart system with 30 days notice.
- PayPal changed their terms of service and would no longer allow transactions for the sale or purchase of adult products, forcing us to remove PayPal as a payment method on our stores.
- The government implemented new regulations on the display of adult images, and our video suppliers will no longer provide us with images of video boxes.
- Most recently, our credit card service changed their terms of service and will no longer allow adult businesses, forcing us to switch to a new payment gateway and merchant account for accepting credit cards payment.
In order to avoid being placed in a "high risk" category by MasterCard and Visa, we have temporarily closed our video store. (Displaying the box cover for an adult video is apparently a "high risk" to the credit card companies.) The "service" charges and penalties associated with a "high risk" account are more than *we* want to risk.
We are working on a way to re-open the store in a way that is compliant with our merchant bank agreement. Please check back in February, we hope to be back on the air by then!
